It’s a straight up “liberal govt does liberal things and public gets the bill” story.
EDIT: apparently the liberal thing here is making it impossible to build high speed rail. That definitely is an European angle. Also, extremely fucked up.
Barely. And even then, I would not really be interested in a post about a failed government land scheme in Portugal or Austria in this community either unless it somehow intersected with EU policy or influenced relations with its neighbors.
Its great when stupid people tell you they’re stupid because then you can just smile and pat them on the head like you’re supporting a toddler trying to form a proper sentence.
Hint: it’s you, you’re the stupid.
Another hint: Europe isn’t the EU. One is geographical, the other is political.
High speed rail is definitely something that’s important internationally. If done well, it could replace a bunch of polluting flights with a train trip

Boy I sure am dumb, I didn’t realise you said Europe and not EU.
If you’re going to start a pedantic argument on the ass end of the fediverse for an article nobody’s really going to read, at least ensure that you’re actually being correctly pedantic.
What’s the European angle here?

The UK is part of Europe.

I never said it should be about the EU, I said it should have a European dimension.
This clearly does not.
High speed rail is definitely something that’s important internationally. If done well, it could replace a bunch of polluting flights with a train trip
It’s about high speed rail? I really couldn’t figure that out from the article. I guess HS2 stands for “Highspeed 2” or something?
In that case, yes, it definitely has a European dimension. I retract my objection.
Thanks for filling me in.
But the article could have used the word “rail” just once. It would have been enough.
In the UK hs2 is a very big thing and this article was written for them, here you would have to be living under a rock not to have heard of it.
I would not expect Europeans to know so the op posting here should make it clear,
Did you even read what you wrote?
Yes, did you?
Yeah, I’ll bold it for you so you can see:
Barely. And even then, I would not really be interested in a post about a failed government land scheme in Portugal or Austria in this community either unless it somehow intersected with EU policy or influenced relations with its neighbors.

The other words also have meaning.
Besides, the other poster brought me up to speed. I understand the European angle now.
