Besides being an amazing streaming box, both perf-wise and overall UX/UI, my favorite feature is easily the TV app’s unified Up Next feature. It allows me to have a single source of things I want to watch (except Netflix because they haven’t opened up their API). I also love being able to easily use my AirPods

As someone who came from using a Shield I can honestly say that Apple TV 4K is the best around.

Apps start much faster, no lag, no glitches. I primarily use youtube, plex, youtube kids, spotify, sling, and netflix.

Don’t get me wrong, the Shield was awesome at the time and way better than any of the “stick” streamers, but the Apple TV 4K is a whole new level. Even the small details like their screensaver make it all feel very polished.

Don’t get one then? Lmao idk why posts like this exist. It’s a high quality streaming box with a nice UI and integration with Apple’s other products.

What kind of bullshit reply is this? Answer OPs question instead. Fucking hell.

The answer is Apple TV box is great regardless of having TV+ or not. You can install a lot of apps and other streaming services.

        I mean— come on.

Just type it into YouTube and you’ll get detailed reviews of exactly what it is.

OP basically just said “I have zero idea what this product is— try to sell me on it”. 🙄

I bought my Apple TV 4K back in 2020. Roku and I can’t remember which streaming service had a fight. Roku wouldn’t allow the update to come through until the app paid carriage fees. It could have been Peacock, but I can’t remember (or really care which app).

If Roku makes money from apps paying to be on the platform, then we are right back into the cable tv model. I don’t want corporations fighting each other but my viewing held captive.

Apple sells hardware. It makes its money because I bought their device. There’s no block on which apps can go to it.

Amazon’s UI is horrible. Roku appears greedy. Vizio has a weird UI too, reminiscent of Amazon’s.

Yes, there are other ways to have streaming services. My current Toshiba TV has built in Amazon Fire TV. But I still use my Apple TV as my primary device.

Also note that you don’t need an AppleTV to get an AppleTV+ subscription. The AppleTV+ app is available on most streaming platforms (Roku, Fire, etc.).

Personally, though, I endorse the AppleTV as a great device. I’ve had my 4k version for several years, and it shows no sign of obsolescence and outperforms my FireTV Max and the WebOS platform on my LG C2. It’s smoother, faster, more stable, and utilizes all the features — UHD, Atmos, etc. — available on each service. (Exception: there are some X-ray/bonus features on certain Prime shows only viewable on a FireTV.) You can count on getting the best available picture and audio quality from each service on an AppleTV, IMO.

With the right HDMI cable the AppleTV 4K has superior audio and video than what my TV can dish out with its downloaded apps.

I like it. Remote is great, apps are fine. Wish they’d have a better ui background. Strangely the picture and video seemed to improve for me? I run through a receiver so no idea if it was cables or settings but love it!

Lack of third party ads and apps that are still actively updated. A lot of TV built in apps are published and never touched again.

If you care about Dolby True HD or DTS:X get a Shield.

Apple TV boxes are great for streaming Netflix, Disney +, HBO Max/Max, as well as your cable package (you can often save a lot on rental of TV boxes with an Apple TV box.
