I noticed that this instance is on 0.17.4 instead of 0.18.0, which prevents login through Jerboa (the most popular android lemmy app atm).

I was looking to post this in a general forum, but I guess this is as general as it gets?

c/startrek is the “general” community of the instance, yes.

The error message on Jerboa is a known issue - unfortunately, we’re going to wait until v.0.18.1 is released, as CAPTCHA is disabled in v.0.18.0, and we’re not willing to give that up at this time.

There are three main workarounds that we’re aware of for this issue:

    • When your Jerboa login fails, simply use Android’s “back” button to return to the initial screen in the app - you should actually be logged in, and able to engage with the instance, at least in a limited fashion.

    • There is a fork of Jerboa that’s supposed to compatible with instances running v.0.17 - I haven’t tested this myself, so use at your own risk.

    • You can access the instance through a mobile web browser - the mobile web version of Lemmy is actually pretty good, and I preferred it over Jerboa even before the version mismatch became an issue. You can even install the instance as a PWA through Chrome’s “…” menu.

      Thanks for the quick response!

Ok, I’ll probably wait for 0.18.1 before using it in jerboa. I know lemmy.world is having a similar issue right now, but it works in the Connect app, so maybe I’ll try that or mobile browser until then.

Right now, c/Risa is the destination for shitposting. We plan to evaluate the possibility of adding new communities over time.

Lots of instances have some sort of “meta” community for any discussion or bug reports about the instance and to prevent such talk form “polluting” the topic focused communities. I think it’d be a good idea here too, even, for instance, for discussing new community ideas.

As for what to call it … “Conference Room”, “Ready Room”, “Ops” (I literally hear Sisko’s voice with that one), “Engineering”?

I was also using jerboa (and beehaw hasn’t upgraded, either).

I ended up exploring other apps and are really liking thunder (it reminds me of baconreader).

    Another honorable mention is liftoff.

Tbh, I don’t know why jerboa was released as “stable” but with a forced server upgrade. It seems a bit strong armed. Anyway, I’m thrilled that other applications exist, so I get the continued functionality I want w/o needing the admins to accommodate me.

Seconding the recommendation for thunder; it’s the first one I’ve found with a proper compact mode. Everything is simple and fast without any frills.
