    1. That’s when the MacBook was introduced, and introduced the USB-C only design, the butterfly keyboard, and the worst: the non-glowing Apple logo

I would say 2020. I made the mistake of getting an Intel over the M1. It seemed good to start but it seems very aged already and gets hot. My wife’s M2 Air is a lot better.

I could have had the M1 instead. I think back to that decision and shake my head. I was worried the M1 might not be compatible with my software.

the best thing about it is being able to bootcamp windows natively, saves my life in uni. For this I think intel macs >>> Mx macs

I have the 2020 Intel too. Always thought it was my charger or I’m just bad at managing my applications. But it’s still sufficient honestly just can’t do anything intense

2015 – minor processor bump on the MBPs, introduction of the 12-inch MB with a single port… everyone suspected a major redesign in 2016. If you had to buy a MacBook 2015, pulling the trigger on that was rough.

      I second this.

I had a maxed out 2014 15" that I bought in January of 2015. I wanted a 13" but even after maxing it out, the 15" was still substantially more powerful and a better fit for my needs. Even then it never performed all that well (especially when it would use the horrendously awful integrated graphics instead of the Nvidia card) and had to be sent in for major repairs multiple times because it would just randomly stop working. I definitely got my money’s worth with AppleCare on that machine though.

The 2012 MacBook Pros were the best. Excellent keyboard, upgradable ram and hard drive, could replace optical drive with a second hard drive, anti glare screen option, plenty of ports. After that they went downhill and now they’re disposable laptops.

2017 MacBook Pro. I just replaced mine with a new MacBook and couldn’t be happier. My 2017’s backlight went out in 2020 and had to get it fixed, the battery went to complete garbage about 4 years after purchase, random keys would get stuck (notably the Z and 7), and the laptop most recently would make random popping and exploding noises if the memory pressure was too high. Total dump of a laptop.

Can I go maybe a couple of years before that and say when Apple got rid the silver keyboard type that was more sunken in and for me was easier to type on. Apple has had an almost obsession with fashion over form and utility with some products, let’s get rid of ports, we have issues with select Magsafe charging so get of it, etc. This was rearing it’s a head just a bit under Steve Jobs but has accelerated under Tim Cook. It’s like Cook takes any design from Jony Ive and just says that’s awesome. Jony is a genius and unparalleled in his job but people forgot that Jony was recruited to Apple in 1992 by John Sculley and Jobs wouldn’t officially come back until 1997. So there was some kind of magic between Ive and Jobs.

MacBooks were at their lowest when compared to windows PCs. There was no reason to get one if you weren’t in the apple ecosystem already.

Plus the 2017 models had year old intel chips in them that weren’t even powerful on release date.

Butterfly keyboards until M1 macbooks. We’re in a golden era of macbooks right now. Not been this happy since the 2012 retina macbook pro
