Welp, this lemmy thing seems to be taking off a bit, so I wanted to open up a discussion on where you all think the community should go. I personally enjoy the freeform discussion / catch-all nature of the community for any and all car enthusiast-related things. Comms for specific models, subtypes of vehicle, etc can be their own thing alongside c/cars.

One idea I had was to have some theme days to drive posting & keep things consistent in the future. Some potential theme days:

  • Motor Mondays (post your engine bay/other performance mods)

  • Track Tuesdays (post photos of your car at the track)

  • Wheel Wednesdays (post your custom wheels)

If you have any other ideas/suggestions, shout 'em out in the comments. I hope this community will continue to grow as it has been over the last couple of weeks! As it continues to grow, I’ll be putting out a call for another mod or two to help with keeping the sub a welcoming/inclusive place for anyone who likes cars, so stay tuned for that too!

Question: is it acceptable for owners of EV’s to post pictures of their trunk on Motor Mondays, but only so long as they make a reference to their car having a V0?

Not necessarily. Not at first, anyway. I want to keep the community as active as possible to start. If people feel that there are too many pic only posts, then we could always spin those off to another community.

I like the idea of themed days.

Could have funny fridays to keep the memes in check. Showoff saturdays for general show and shine pics. Sinful sundays for dodgy/bad/neglectful stuff.

How do you plan to deal with “how do I fix…” and “what car should I buy?” threads?

Mostly asking because I ended up here as I might be buying a vehicle in the future. Not because I just simply love cars a lot. And my needs are waaay different than those of a general car enthusist with money to spend. Then I realized I’m probably not the only one who’s gonna pop up here with such questions.

So I imagine you have to think of a way to deal with, heh, drive-by posters like me in the future. Maybe.

Edit: I don’t actually need an answer to these questions. I’m just putting them here for you to ponder.

We could do that as a periodic megathread. Or that specific topic could be spun off into its own community (I believe reddit had one for car buying specifically, too).

maybe we should set up a community for repairs and fixes, similar to r/cartalk? i know it would be useful if we could build it, as reddit was one of the first places i’d go to see info about car repairs (as far as how common, fixes that may not be in a manual, general advice about an issue)…

of course the issue initially will be getting people to join multiple communities, but with spez and musk both shitting the bed on the same day, now is the time.

I see a lot of car communities being advertised here, but I personally think this should be the everything car place until we grow large enough.

Also, I’d love a weekly $5k craigslist challenge thread :)
