Anyone want to bet it will be a live service?

It’s gonna be a live service. They’re addicted to DRM and online microtransactions, there’s no way they give it up.

I’m pretty sure I saw another article from the CEO saying that WB Games core strategy is to monetize everything as much as possible by making it all live service, all of their major IPs.

Sounds like they’re just lying for this one, hoping it’ll blow over by release and everybody will forget the promises they made.

What exactly is their incentive to lie?

If they are making a live service game, they must believe that there are enough people who like that to make it viable. I don’t see how them lying about it now would lead to more sales later.

So if they say it’s not live service, I’m inclined to believe them. That doesn’t mean the game is going to be good.

Can you explain 'live service ’ to a non-gamer? And what is DRM? I scroll all and keep seeing these terms with no explanation. I’d just like to understand the conversation that I’m obviously late to.

Live Service Games are games that have continued content additions over time after release, generally in small, single item packages (like a skin for a gun, a hat for your character, or a new character entirely) they sell for at a premium. They also tend to use FOMO by having these items only available for a brief window of time.

DRM stands for Digital Rights Management; it’s a form of copy-protection to prevent piracy. One in particular you might see while scrolling is Denovu, which is known to hinder more legitimate users than actual pirates.

I get it. Thanks for the explanation. I got left behind when games got too complicated to be fun for me.
