Why? This thread is far away from the actual tragedy. Which place would be better, especially since this directly relates to the headline? Talking about the headline anywhere else would be far more out of place.

The time is debatable. But I think it’s largely irrelevant as well. Either people can discuss the headline on a semantic layer, then now is as good as next year. Or they can’t, and then they would still read about a tragedy, even if it’s no longer recent.

Actually this justice-warrior-attitude of getting all upset about something you are not even affected by is much more Reddit-style. But deflect all you want instead of reflecting on objective reasoning.

I don’t think I am jaded enough to respond to tragedy with a tasteless pun, but I suppose that’s one way of coping with it.

That’s also valid. Different people have different coping mechanisms and a different sense of humor. I think there’s no generally valid line to draw about where humor is valid or invalid. Unless someone is directly affected, they should just roll their eyes and move on if they think it’s inappropriate. The only people who have reason to complain are people directly affected. If a make myself laugh on the death bed of a relative, that’s my thing. If I laugh at the funeral of someone else’s relative … well, that’s not so nice. Or it least it could be not so nice. Maybe they also laugh. Totally depends.
