blind self interest is human nature, which is why they have to make explicit rules against doing anything else
you best start believin’ in dystopian YA novels…YER IN ONE
I had to go through my edgy atheist phase before I wised up. That rule and the sixth one “the only sovereign you can allow to rule you is reason” were almost Sam Harris-esque, so naturally I continued to think they were brilliant. Took a few years to go from that to ML, and realizing what those books were was a big step.
I was a huge fan as a teen, I’ve read all the books, and how my guy can’t see the anti-communist randian libertarianism is frankly astonishing. It’s not subtle, and once I started learning actual politics I recognized what the books were about almost immediately. They were a huge part of my teens and early twenties, but they’re exactly as you describe, and super easy to recognize as such.
All that’s left for you now is to hunt down your creator — and make them fix whatever it was they missed in QA.
Isn’t this the plot of “lethal inspection,” the futurama episode?
My guy………where do you think profits come from?
I don’t know, maybe I’m just in a weird mood, but this review made me happy. It’s just so garbage, starting strong with human nature, going on to say that his bit about the ants and bees (literally in the first few pages) is what he thinks society should be like, and peppered with unnecessarily large words that nonetheless still leaves his criticism utterly vague and superficial. what did you tell her it was about?
The episdoe where the Chapos and Bill Corbett review the Dinesh D’Souza doc is a treat

GODDAMIT, being the lesser of two evils isn’t supposed to be your explicit goal, you pieces of garbage! just do something good, just once, as a goof. jesus christ

Reminds me of the story from first season of Blowback, when the CIA gave burner phones to a bunch of civilians to be informants, and eventually a handler got a call from someone clearly under duress, and when he answered a different voice could be heard saying, “We knew you were CIA” before it went dead.
Holy shit dude :michael-laugh: :michael-laugh: :michael-laugh:
That was one of Graeber’s main points in Debt: the first 5000 years, debt is a perfect way to turn relations of violence on their head, making the oppressor seem the victim, and the victim seem to be the one in the wrong.
Yeah, I praxis everyday, I praxis running and jumping and ignoring Marzipan all the times…after all, strong bad, praxis makes prefect
