Thank you for the detailed explanation. I found it both informative and unsettling!

I always appreciate when the game allows you to choose how far the camera is from your character, and when they let you pick if you want to play first of third person.
Yes! I almost always change a few of the buttons when I get the chance. Extra points if the game is nice enough to let you know when your changes conflict with other presets.
I live near a restaurant that has a sign on the side of the building that shows a zoomed in pair of eyes. Below the eyes it says “Fine, dine here!” as if the sign is just being passive aggressive and your patronage to the restaurant is really a nuisance. It’s so dumb, but every time I see it I can’t help but giggle!
You even put bookmarks in them all. That’s so sweet!
I used to use a website called Lang-8. It’s not really for direct chats, but you write an entry and then natives can come and correct it for grammar and/or natural feel. I was never brave enough to do full on chats with natives, so that’s the best I have ^^;
The sub I miss the most is definitely GuysBeingDudes. It was just my type of humor and always gave me a good chuckle.
I am glad that there is a somewhat active community for uplifting news here though.
Wow! Thank you so much for the tips and book suggestion! I was just reading earlier about trying the idea to keep it in a spot with fluctuating temperatures, but I’m embarrassed to say that judging by what you said, I’m likely drowning the poor thing! I think mine needs new soil, so I’ll do that soon and check for root rot while I’m at it, then try better to let the soil dry between waterings. I’ll take a look at the book you suggested too. I got this orchid because the person who had it before passed away, so I want to do my best to keep it healthy!
I’d love to see you update this as you go. I inherited an orchid at work and I’m struggling with helping it bloom. I’d love to see what works for you :)
I really liked The Girl With All the Gifts, and I also enjoyed it’s sequel. I tried to read Fellside though, and found that I didn’t like the characters enough to get though it, even though it was just as well written as the other two.
So I’d be interested to hear what you think of Someone Like Me when you’re done, and how it stacks up to his other works.
I’m about a third of the way though A Darker Shade of Magic, by VE Schwab.
I picked it up a while back and just put it back down one night…where it sat for a few months. I recently finished her other book, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, and really enjoyed it, so I was compelled to give this one another go.
I absolutely adored The Girl With All the Gifts, by MR Carey. I spent most of the time I wasn’t reading it daydreaming about when I would be reading it again, lol.
I know it’s a more juvenile book, but I’ve been a Jonathan Stroud fan since I was young, and just finished the first book in his newest series, The Outlaws Scarlet and Browne. It was a quick read, but I had a hard time putting this one down as well!
Agreed! I love combing through what people are currently reading for things to add to my list ^^
I tried to read the books after playing The Witcher 3 and had a similar problem. I just couldn’t get into the writing style.
I just came across “palimpsest” for the first time recently too! It was while reading The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, by VE Schwab. It’s been a while since I had to look a word up, so it stuck in my mind, lol.
I had a hard time getting into that one. You’ll have to come back an update us after you’re done! I’d love to hear if you think it was a worthy read.
I want to read this sooo bad!! Ever since I read Spinning Silver, I’ve been eager to read more of her work. Have you read Spinning Silver? I’d be interested to know how it compares to Uprooted.
Same here- FE7 was my first as well. I think I played it about 5 times before finally moving on to a new entry in the series, so for a lot of my FE life, it was my favorite purely for nostalgia. I was obsessed for a while with getting my support compendium filled out, so I’d plan out my runs and who I was going to use based completely on who I wanted to support. I do not miss the days of limited supports.
These days I have a hard time deciding between PoR and 3H though. I lean more towards PoR, but it’s a tough call.
Thanks for the recommendation! The premise sounds good, and I’m trying to get more into sci-fi these days, so I’ll definitely have to give it a read.
I just finished up listening to Blood of Elves, from The Witcher series. I started with the third game when it came out, but I really love the world and the characters, so the books thus far have been very entertaining. I’m not sure I’d really care for them if I wasn’t already immersed because of the game though.
My sister also just loaned me Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica. It takes place in a world where people cannot eat the meat of other animals anymore, so they have legalized cannibalism. I’m only a few chapters in so far, but it’s pretty unnerving. I’m honestly not sure if I’ll be able to read it all the way through.
