  • Being nonbinary, Grey represents being “neither this nor that”, and is a traditional unisex name from England/Ireland (which is a good part of my heredity). I found it on a baby name website that had filters for culture of origin.

I wanted something musical for my middle name, and so I started going through musical terms. When I happened upon Cadence, I immediately loved how it sounded with my first name. “Grey Cadence” has a lovely ring to it, and Cadence is more feminine - so if I want something less neutral I don’t need to change my legal name again.

  • Most religions specifically dissuade people from thinking critically. I recall my time in my Jesuit high school, where any questioning of the tenets were frowned upon.

The basic concept of faith is to accept something which can’t be proven. It is antithetical to critical thought.

I have spent years learning about religions of the world, as I recover from my religious trauma. There are very few which truly encourage critical thought.

  • Alt-J An awesome wave - it really is considered as a whole in its creation. There are interludes, dips & swells in the energy, and a whole journey of sonically related songs which keep introducing new variations and sounds.

Sufjan Stevens the BQE - another album that really should be enjoyed as a whole journey, it follows the daily commute of so many along the Brooklyn Queens Expressway in NYC. It wanders from orchestral to electronic noise, and is a wonderful album to put on for a slow Sunday morning.
