time is not really on anybody’s side, but the US elite can afford to have the strait closed for a few more weeks in order to extend the war of attrition on iran’s economy. the blockade is still trump’s preferred tactic and he doesn’t want to negotiate, only to dictate terms he dug himself into by publicizing them. china is still choosing to release its reserves and there will be a temporary oil boost when the tankers that left during MoU reach their destination.
i think the hope within the US administration is that iran’s liquidity problem or another specific mechanism blows up into another internal crisis. there had been discussions about liberalizing the electricity prices which would almost certainly lead to protests, but i don’t know if those plans were postponed or not because of the war. it could also be that after the summer the inflation is simply too much and without wages keeping up there is a second round of protests. overall it’s not great and US keeps exploiting iran’s willingness to negotiate in order to delay the oil doomsday deadline.

the blockade will probably be re-implemented. there will also probably be more US bombing with the goal of destroying alternative rail routes (war crimes but who’s keeping tabs anyway) and then back to the fake peace and negotiations. i’ve never been on a rollercoaster but im sure it must be more tolerable than this.

it’s mocking but every time i saw him say it it was accompanied with a threat.

has he internalised praise be to allah as some sort of threatening statement? also funny when he is clearly pissing his pants so he has does the genocide don routine on saturdays.

flat bread, dry enough and it feels like chips. you must be careful not to cut your mouth with the sharp edges.

he also created resentment in his base with that shitty dropout video, making sure they won’t vote, and thus saving democrats from the horror of possibly having senate majority.

fans, preferably ceiling fans but desk fans and standing fans also work. for ceiling fans make sure the fan is spinning the correct way. for desk fans you can do a poor man’s version of water AC and put a thin damp rag (not dripping otherwise the water might damage the fan) on the cage so it blows the air through the rag. it probably only works in dry climates though.
if your building doesn’t trap heat well, open the windows and doors to have air circulation but have your curtains closed to minimise the amount of light entering the building.
bourgeois decadence has hit new lows

i don’t think americans have the reading comprehension necessary to understand this. Baqaei and Pezeshkian tweets are really interesting when compared to Ghalibaf tweets.

i think the bridge is part of the Tehran-Mashhad railway route, which has suspended service already. Mashhad is the last destination of the funeral, this was basically both a warning on the ability of the US to do genocide and a propaganda tactic to stop more people from going to the funeral. petty war crimes is a hallmark of this administration.
EDIT: it is also a part of the railway line to russia that was used to circumvent the blockade, so expect the blockade to be back again.

israel has also started attacking lebanon again. a pakistani cargo plane has also crashed in the arabian sea a few of hours ago which seems really suspicious. overall not a great night.

i cannot express how much i needed some happy news like this. my day has been made.

they probably didn’t. their brain and spine turned into mush before they could even process what was happening.

the ML field is sustainable and productive… LLMs and LLM derivatives are not. they have an inherent use case which is why they’ll stay around (unlike NFTs), but there are two factors that lead me to not be concerned about their climate impact for now:
all these big numbers you see about the AI buildup and its impact will probably never happen because i think the enthusiasm runs out and kills the bubble before oversupply takes over and pops it.
chinese models are far more efficient and cheaper to run while being open weight, i think they will absolutely dominate unless US companies also make cheaper models. regardless in both scenarios the compute needed falls drastically. granted they are still not sustainable, but they are better in that regard.
i think the available infrastructure right now can perfectly handle the natural demand for this tech at this point. the issue is that they keep selling this idea of “AGI” and total AI domination, which is not going to happen, at least with transformers and LLMs. there’s also the structural issues with ML approaches, like past is not a reliable indicator of the future and not everything can be optimised and represented by an objective function.

the ad reads 40,000. it’s just a weird font. it’s still a made up number anyway so it really doesn’t matter it might as well say 256789.

people are talking about DVDs like they weren’t loaded with DRM. that’s the real issue get rid of the DRM and then you can create your own physical media.
this is a broad society wide iranian issue. everyone thinks like this and the state has almost no control over culture so it doesn’t go away. on top of that this is also why when they do import something from china or india they import the stuff with the lowest quality possible because “people only buy chinese stuff because it’s cheap not for the quality”.
