It started because I was poor and resented the idea of paying for software. Then I became a professional developer and the advantages of the OS became more obvious. This was ~15 years ago.
Since then the enshittification of MS has made me more and more confident in my decision.

The gov’t should absolutely have cut them a cheque when they forbade them from modernizing their operations back when Trudeau was first in power. If they’re short on cash and want to restructure to reduce costs, then preventing them from doing that should also cover the difference.

We have the most whipped vote of any Westminster system. In theory MP’s can vote against their party. In practice they don’t because they’ll get kicked out.
It’s harder and harder for MP’s to change or choose the leader. It’s effectively a single choice that you’re stuck with them until they resign. There are very limited in how they can replace or hold a leader to account.

This right here is the core of the problem, and it isn’t unique to the TFW program. We write these carefully crafted laws and then don’t fund enforcement.
I think we ought to just drop the program. It doesn’t help Canadians (besides business owners who want cheap labour) and we clearly can’t make it live up to our aspirations.
