  • Apple has always sold a minimum spec system that always underperformed. This isn’t new. They continued to sell Macs with HDDs instead of SSDs which had huge impacts on entry level performance.

    It’s what I call the device for a buyer that know not what they need but just want a label.

    I rarely comparison shop for an Apple product within the lineup based upon “minor specs”; I typically shop for what I need vs what’s the cheapest way to get a new system. Effectively as a Mac user of at least 25 years - the sting of the bottom tier never impacted me - as I would have never considered a system with the bare minimum.

    Apple as well as every OEM, charge premiums on things like incremental storage and ram. Apple charges a bit more than other manufacturers sure - but in the end; compare the complete system to another complete system - other than Apple’s bottom tier - they are closer in price to others than I think most would admit. And sure it’s a difficult comparison nowadays because it’s Intel/AMD + NVIDIA vs Apples M-series SoC.
