I find it sad that we treat celebrity gossip as newsworthy. Sure, they’re hypocrites. That’s like telling me touching water will get you wet. What else is new?

This is newsworthy because one is the executive of an entire state. Having proof of the affair could give someone leverage over the governor and affect the way she conducts the business of the state.

Well, probably not so much now.

In theory, I don’t give a shit, consenting adults and all that.

In practice, they’re complete pig rectums to everyone else about their sex lives so I’m not really invested in defending them. Got people at a higher priority to back.

I dunno, out of the 12 people who live there, one of them is substantially less likely to vote for her now.

Normally, I agree. But when this sort of thing is uncovered about politicians who constantly bleat about “family values”, it becomes immediately relevant to the public discourse around our state and national politics - specifically, how one particular party has a pattern and practice of extreme hypocrisy and gaslighting.

They’re hypocrites and they want to be in charge. This isn’t some Hollywood star whose life outside entertaining us is irrelevant. This is someone who wants to decide what the laws that affect people like you and me are. These are the representatives that we send to negotiate on our behalf. Their ability to be decent human beings and keep promises they made matters.
