And that was a big step above just trying to get Wine configured to play games. I did that once way back. It was just too much work for worse performance than Windows. I’m sure there were Linux wizards out there who did a better job getting their games working in Linux than I did.

Now I’m primarily enjoying PC games on a Steam Deck with almost no configuration needed. Amazing!

There’s a tool called GRUB you can use to dual boot Windows and still be part of the gang. Just don’t say it out loud though, especially when arguing with a macOS user.

I recently replaced MacOS with Linux on a MacBook. And next year my last installation of Windows is going to be deleted. I absolutely hate this ad-infested crap they want to distribute.

The ads aren’t even bothering me yet, though I object strenuously on principle. Shittiest thing about the os so far is the fucking load times - how did you screw this up, retards?

I got Manjaro Gnome installed on a 2015 MacBook Pro (and on a P400), but I see absolutely no reason why I should use Asahi on my M2 Max.

I’ve been waiting for a Darwin+Gnome OS for years now but people seem to prefer ignoring that macOS kernel is open source too (just as Swift, Swift compiler, WebKit, Cups, ALAC, HealthKit, HomeKit…)

BSD, and by extension Darwin and macOS, is most definitely Unix, tracing its roots all the way back to the original Bell Labs Unix source code.

Didn’t Minix also have Unix roots? So why is Linux only Unix-like?

Every single free operating system made sure in the 90s that not a single line from commercial OSes like Unix persists in the kernel and userland. The idea is Unix, but not the code.

Its like the step between Windows and Linux. “Linux-light” if you will, but with more tracking!
