I’m not gonna lie: this whole thing is fucked when you think deeper about it.

The identity of the shooter doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things. Redmaga and bluemaga are each going to construct their own narrative and conspiracies about this event. Neither side will allow themselves to consider even a smidge of the opposing narrative. This is how deep the divide in this country is.

What is known for certain is that this will galvanize the right in the US and lead to more rightwing stochastic terrorism in the long run. Trump will win this election. If he doesn’t then several major riots might start across major US cities. Whoever is in charge of this news is going to make sure the least amount of information about that guy’s identity is available to the public.

This. Before Trump’s ear stopped bleeding the republicans were already convinced it was a trans antfia supersoldier ridin’ with Biden. We even saw it last night with the liberals saying it was a false flag.

The thing is when we fret about riots we always picture riots of the past when overall populations were lower, countries didn’t have too many deeply interlocked financial interests, and technology was less sophisticated. In a developed country of 300 million people to keep stable with an exceptionally high tech military, any major attempts at rioting will still end up a comparative whimper that soon gets either subdued by institutional forces focused on maintaining predictable markets above all, or have their rage diverted by content made by self-interested private org grifters.

It won’t. Bourgeoisie interests dictate the will of the country. They’ll sacrifice their profits for an old sweaty guy for a little, but anything that eats into it for a long time will result in a crackdown.

This is like saying 9/11 fundamentally made the US more openly racist which is both true and false depending on how far back you look and what is the standard you take it from.

The US is a country which already children are killed in classrooms, where adults already die from all consequences of poverty and where mass shootings in general are already common.

Point being, things which could be described as “terrorism” everywhere else in the world are already common and some(most?) of these are already on a trend upwards. So it may turn out to be a mistake to think this is some special moment that defined those trends.
