Kamala Harris has launched her campaign for the White House, after President Joe Biden stepped aside Sunday under pressure from party leaders.
The vice president has Biden’s endorsement, and is unchallenged as yet for the Democratic nomination, which will be formally decided at the Aug. 19 convention in Chicago.
“I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination,” Harris said in a statement. “I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party—and unite our nation—to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda. We have 107 days until Election Day. Together, we will fight. And together, we will win.”
In her statement, the vice president paid tribute to Biden’s “extraordinary leadership,” saying he had achieved more in one term than many presidents do in two.
I mean, if it’s gonna happen - she’s gonna be the best bet. She has funding from the same campaign, and at least she’s not going around claiming that trees randomly explode.
I’ll be happier to vote for her than I would have been voting for Biden.
What if you have to choose between an electric boat and an exploding tree?
Call in the sharks.
Any D 2024. Fuck the republican traitor filth.
Rotting Bloated Corpse (D) for president!
Please, no Reagan.
(D)
Have we checked to make sure she’s not a Supe yet?
god butcher is such a heck
What’s a heck? I’ve only ever seen it used to mean hell.
idk i was using it instead of fuck
Ah, fair enough. He is, yeah. Putting it mildly, even
At this point does it matter? I think not!
My sincere best wishes to her
Now that Biden dropped out, Trump is going to be the oldest presidential candidate to run. Are we sure he’s fit to run? Is his brain declining? Does he have dementia or Alzheimer’s?
sǝʎ sǝʎ ou :ɹǝʍsu∀
She was always my first choice in 2016. She is not afraid of confronting trump or any other authoritarians around the world.
She was always my first choice in 2016
Statistically there had to be some…
But Kamala was the weakest in the 2020 primary.
She’s better than Joe, but she’s not popular. And her numbers reflect that
Hell, unless you had a typo I legit don’t even remember her running in 2016
She’s not gonna earn anything, she will demand loyalty like the rest of them
This guy seems like the troll of the post
This person is like 90% of the time, they literally just told me they’d prefer Joseph Stalin to any Democrat.
Yeah, I think I’m done with them.
Joseph Stalin
He’s a Tankie who trolls other comment sections too.
He’s got to be in the top 5 trolls on Lemmy.
Little quick off the mark to already be saying things this tiresome, aren’t we?
Go home, Russian propaganda.
lol please go touch grass
The fuck are you on about?
I would have preferred if her first statement was about stomping out fascism and restoring and cementing abortion rights, rather than “winning and earning the nomination”…
That said: big q for me is who she’ll pick as vp!
Sit them all down in a room, ask “who here has been to space?” and pick Mark Kelly.
I hate Cheeto Chimp. Unfortunately, Harris cannot win.
Counterpoint: Yes, she absolutely can.
Don’t fool yourself. It’ll hurt your feelings.
Don’t cut yourself on that edge, man.
Here in the real world, which you should spend some time in, Kamala Harris can win, but that doesn’t mean she will win, and people should recognize that, of course. But fuck fatalism.
She can’t.
She can.
Want to keep going like this? Or do you maybe want to have a real conversation and express a point beyond fatalism?
Cannot. Do not pretend that Democrats aren’t filled with sexist and racist voters that won’t vote for her or vote at all.
In 2008, Barack Obama won. In 2016, Hillary Clinton got the popular vote, even after a continuous character assassination campaign of 25 years.
Yes, there are racist and sexist Democrats. But in both years, the clear majority of Democrats overcame the racist and sexist ones.
If you’re not willing to actually cough up some evidence for why Kamala Harris can’t win, then you’re just being fatalistic and cynical for no good reason.
Why do you say that? Can you explain yourself beyond just an absolute statement?
It’s self evident. If people want to ignore that there are multitudes of racist and sexist on the Dem side then that’s plain stupid.
I’m just gonna go ahead and throw my vote away for her anyways. She can’t win right? So there’s no reason not to right? Dumb fuck
She should take a woman as VP!
That’s… not a terribly pragmatic idea. These days, it’s a good idea to pick a running mate whose strengths balance out or cover for the ticket leader’s weaknesses (real or perceived). Here, that means an uncontroversial white dude, because America is unfortunately still quite racist and sexist.
