    “I think the existing, altruistic, free version of Reddit will continue to exist and grow and thrive just the way it has,” Huffman said per Engadget. “But now we will unlock the door for new use cases, new types of subreddits that can be built that may have exclusive content or private areas, things of that nature.”

    1. This will be used by sex workers first.

    2. Gonna do the funniest shit with gamingcirclejerk that the community will absolutely freak out about and take seriously instead of laugh at.

    3. Next blackout protest = paywall all of reddit.

        I got into century club and it was really fucking awful. There was one user in particular who was a real beard as personality late middle aged dude. He would post about his mundane suburban life constantly, as if anyone was interested, and would refer to his wife as Mrs WhateverTheFuckHisUsernameWas. It was so incredibly condescending and cringe. But because this was Reddit his boring ass self commentary was fawned upon by other century club users, wanting a bit of parasocial interaction. If you were particularly lucky and lived nearby he might swing by and then post pictures of himself drinking and smoking cigars with you.

        To top it off he was a veteran. A real arsehole of a veteran. I think I made some comment about Afghanistan and he responded to me with a story about how he got drunk and ran over a bunch of camels with an LAV, thinking he sounded really cool and unconcerned. True or not, it was just the worst, most childish thing anyone had ever said to me. Just oozing with this need to be seen as some sort of cool dude who couldn’t care less about silly little things like human rights or illegal wars.

        I left that sub pretty much because of this one dude. Oh, and some other user called MrPants who also referred to his “wifey” as Mrs Pants. 🤮

        The Reddit blackouts are what motivated me to jump ship from reddit-logo to lemmy (beehaw). I was already a “radicle lib” but lemmy gradually exposed me to more and more hexbear takes. I eventually ditched lemmy and slowly started only visiting hexbear which is what truly radicalized me.

        So yes, we will attract annoying libs, but every so often we will radicalize some comrades.

        There really should be a “no-politics” (actually communist) lemmy for hobbyists that the inevitable redditers can land on and slowly de-indoctrinate on.

        But I’m not signing up to do it, it sounds incredibly tiring.

      Reddit is a website full of neo-nazis, and is thus often called Stormfront.

      It’s a nazi website that used to be on reddit until negative press forced them to ban it. Hence the reddit-logo logo, that’s clipped from an old screenshot. We use it whenever redditor types say racist things, as a “well, what do you expect from that crowd.”
