To everyone who voted for Trump and relies on social security, or ACA healthcare, or have pre-existing conditions, or has a child with special needs, or LGBT family, or undocumented friends and family, I have no sympathy for you. You got what you voted for, next time learn your candidate’s policies before the election. We tried to warn you, we tried to tell you his policies were radical or even dangerous. We tried to tell you he wanted to take all those things away. We tried to tell you we would be the ones paying for his tariffs; but you wouldn’t listen. He is not your friend, he does not care about you, all he wants to stay our of jail and make himself and his wealthy friends richer. The rest of us were willing to pay a little more for groceries if it meant our families would have healthcare, our friend’s children with special needs could get an education, our parents could collect their hard-earned social security. Instead we will all pay a lot more for everything when tariffs are imposed and the migrants who pick our fruits and vegetables are deported.

Now your penance: call your congressmen every day for the next four years, ask them to stand-up to Trump, to block his policies that will make life harder and more expensive for everyday Americans, to block his nominations, tell them you will vote them out in the next election if they don’t – and actually vote against them when they don’t. Write letters to the White House asking them not to do all the things he promised us he’d do. Write to the Supreme Court, and all the government agencies we rely on everyday asking them to resist rolling-back all the progress we’ve made as a country over the last century. If you don’t, it won’t just be the liberals paying the price, it will be your friends, your families, and even you.

Not sure who you are writing this for but the ratio of maga republicans to normal people on Lemmy is probabaly like less than 1:100

Go write it on Reddit where the ratio would be like 1:10

You are preaching to the choir here

Yeah, those who voted for Fuckface 45 and feel betrayed? They have one job, and that’s to ensure the administration they voted for doesn’t get installed.

The rest of us get to try and have a real government.

Getting something off ones chest simply means externalizing, saying it out loud for the sake of doing the act. This isnt a soapbox, this is an audience/support network for shouting into the void.

My wife’s family and my brother are as good as dead to me and will be very shocked and likely unhappy when their next phone call is answered by “lose my number you rapist loving fascist fuck” as I renamed all of them to “Fascist: Answer Appropriately” so I can’t tell which shitstain thinks they have the right to impose on my time

If they grovel at my feet by admitting they were wrong and actually doing something about it they can have access to their favorite daughter and their brother, maybe. Until then: I don’t associate with rapist supporters and Nazi lovers, grandpa got his purple heart shooting you idiots ffs

You keep posting similar comments, and I know you don’t mean it like this, but the “have access to” wording keeps giving me hostage vibes. Like you have your wife locked in your basement and you won’t allow her to see her family until they grovel appropriately.

I do support people not associating with rapist Nazi lovers though.

Its not too far off from that, actually: they’re not allowed to come here or I’ll brandish my firearm and tell them to get the fuck out of my house. She can meet them in third party locations if she WANTS, but she values my opinion of her above spending time with them and had decided not to do that. So, until I’m not actively hostile towards them they’ll not be able to see or talk to their daughter without massive issues.

I use the terms I do because the fascistic dickheads are the ones who have always said shit like that and I’m done bothering to change my words to make more sense. THEY think I’m controlling her because that’s how they think, they cannot fathom that she despises them

Trump has his own think tank to develop policies called The America First Policy Institute.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/America_First_Policy_Institute

Their transition plan is described as a rival to Project 2025, it’s hard to say which is the true plan. But America First is chaired by Linda McMahon, who has know Trump a very long time.

It has some stuff about special needs and disabled people, but who knows what will be implemented come the 20th of January.

What is likely is that it will be some form of Unitary Executive Theory.

Have you encountered conservatives on Lemmy?

Lemmy was originally intended as a tankie safe space and they still hold most of the reigns (for now) so I always assumed that precluded conservatives from joining our ranks.

I mean, I don’t see any mechanism precluding conservatives from joining. They’d probably get defederated or banned on most instances, but they could easily create their own little connection of servers and run a parallel network on the same software, if they so desired. Heck, for all I know they might and I just don’t know about it

Posting on the internet doesn’t move the needle at all. Slacktivism does basically nothing. I know you want to believe so desperately that your voice on here does anything, but it doesn’t.

We’re a niche (the perpetually online), within a niche (sitting on fractured clone of Reddit), within a niche (people who actually vote).

Nothing said or done here will ever make a difference whatsoever.

I think the biggest “selling point” with Trump is quick fixes - he “sold” things getting instantly better. As far as the economy us concerned there is no such thing, let alone by introducing tarrifs, getting rid of productive people and cutting support for people. Which is funny because you can absolutely have a quick “fucked it and the planet up for generations”.

That said, regardless of platform the Nazis are out in force and will be for as long as it takes for it to be shameful again.

The economy is recovering, inflation is back down to normal levels, unemployment is low, GDP is continuing to grow. High tariffs and deporting migrants is only going to make prices go up.

So it wouldn’t help families who can’t afford help in the first place at all. And is just another tax write off for people who are already well off. Thanks for clarifying.

Um… no… it’s not for people who already have a paid caregiver. That wouldn’t even make any sense so i don’t know why the fuck you assumed that as ultimate truth and Factual concrete evidence based on your imagination. Maybe research it and get a grip?

I’ll try it your way: HOW DOES THIS HELP PEOPLE WHO CANNOT AFFORD TO TAKE CARE OF A FAMILY MEMBER IN THE FIRST PLACE?

You may not be aware of this, but things cost money. And to earn money you need a job. But taking care of other people takes time away from your job. Which means you have less money.

This change does not help people who cannot afford to be a caregiver in the first place at all.

Does dumbing it down a little help, you condescending asshole?

One tax break doesn’t make up for wanting to shut down the Department of Education which sponsors special ed programs, or repeal the ACA and reduce medicaid that help people with disabilities get health care.
