The links all go to the OldUnreal site, so I guess Epic has just left it up to the community to keep their legacy alive. Not necessarily a bad thing, but hopefully they send some of their Fortnite fortunes over to the maintainers.
also, it would have been great if Epic linked the appropriate archive.org pages. OldUnreal only hosts windows installers that grab the files off of archive.org
You know damn well they wont :p
Imo the oldunreal people should have gotten access to post the original games on the store for publishing. The games still get small updates from the community from what i noticed when i got the linux versions goingHell, give them some part-time developers or something since we know they won’t give any money.
You know what would be even more awesome? Open sourcing them like Id did with Doom and Quake.
Not the same thing but keep your eye on SurrealEngine.
There’s also https://github.com/OpenTournament/OpenTournament for those looking for something more modern (RIP UT4).
I am surprised Unreal Tournament 2004 is not part of this initiative.
Licensing/legal issues very likely. They licensed that version of the engine for Killing Floor and some other games.
Is there people online ? or avalaible servers ?
I loved the hype on UT4I played UT99 not that long ago. Community is still active and it was easy to get match’s
CTF Face Instagib
IYKYK. Fond memories.
Anyone know what version of TacOps mod is compatible with OldUnreal’s version of UT?
Giving away the only UT game that matters? Wow.
2004 was also great! Too bad that’s not available for free as well.
I thought that they tried too hard to align with Quake 3’s twitch-gaming.
