If we really cared about mothers and fathers then their respective Days would be paid holidays; three-day weekends. Enough with this commemorative Sunday bs.
20% reduction in work days, 50% increase in leisure days
In the US Father’s Day and Juneteenth are the same weekend and some places are doing a 3 day weekend
Juneteenth is a federal holiday, but private employers don’t have to observe it. Mine sure doesn’t. I have never heard of any employer observing Mother’s or Father’s day with a paid holiday.

If you’re making the rules, why not both?
They should just commit to 4 day work-weeks.
Just?
Fuck yeah
I‘ve made that (30h work week) possible for myself by living frugally and not having children, though I hope eventually this desire can reach the unions all the rest too. 4 day week at full pay would be so nice!
What do you mean “by living frugally”? I don’t get what that has to do with the amount of hours you’re required to work, unless you are self employed
It means that I have a certain cost of living which was quite high (renting a nice apartment and owning a car) and I saved money by downgrading my apartment in size, location and selling the car since I also WFH most days now.
So lets say I had 1500€ a month expenses and due to that and some other lifestyle changes (like not going out to eat anymore and budgeting my food purchases more closely) now I have 1000€ a month expenses.
Then I went from working 40h a week and getting 2100€ after taxes to working 30h a week and getting 1700€ after taxes. If I didn‘t live more frugally, I would be in some financial trouble right now with only a small amount of emergency savings a month, but as it is I am living well, mentally even better than before.
All these numbers are made up but fairly close to my reality. My employer by the way was indeed unwilling to let me work less, so I resigned and went on to find someone willing to let me work 30h, which wasn‘t easy as I got rejected from a few fulltime-ultras, but it was worth it for me.
Wow, that’s a pretty bold move but totally worth it in the end
