GitHub and Linux Foundation partnered with researchers from Laboratory for Innovation Science at Harvard to learn about the state of open source funding

86% of investment is in the form of contribution labor by employees and contractors working for the funding organization, with the remaining 14% being direct financial contributions.

      And most software is built using open source tools. I’ve had bosses who are just fine forking out tons of cash to AWS but cringe at the idea of donating $100 to something we use daily.

      I asked my company if they would contribute something, anything to open source and they said “it is not currently planned.” I’m gonna keep pushing. It’s really shitty to just take and build everything on the backs of open source developers and then say you’re not giving them anything with a straight face.
