The reason why Trump supports tariffs is not quite clear. He has said in the past that he wants to get rid of all taxes and fund the US government entirely on tariffs. He proposed the idea of an “External Revenue Service”, similar to the IRS, but instead the US taxes every person outside of the US.

Holy shit I didn’t understand the External Revenue Service stuff until I read this. If this is genuinely how Trump thinks the economy works, we are more screwed than I thought.
