Can confirm this behavior isn’t even enough to get you hired as a real employee with minimum paid time off nowadays.
And then they wonder why work is slowing down while the middle managers all go on week long vacations regularly.
A guy I worked with about 6 months ago had undergone kidney surgery and was in the hospital still working from his laptop in the moments leading up to his surgery, and then almost immediately afterward. Our CEO praised him and the whole company cheered with the exception of myself and one other person. I was absolutely disgusted that someone felt the need to work like that but even moreso that the company was praising instead of condemning it.
Then he got forced out of the company 3 months later. Not technically fired but they made his situation untenable for whatever reason.
“That 6 hours you were unconscious during your surgery shows a distinct lack of work ethic.”
Good on you for not supporting that horrible practice.
Being forced out three months later, that’s as cold as it gets. I am guessing this wasn’t some tiny small mom and pop shop either?
It’s small, but not mom & pop… its a start up with plenty of cash but pretty bad management. The number of people that have come and gone in the past few years is staggering and I’ve been actively trying to leave as well with no luck so far. I did have a promising interview yesterday though so fingers crossed.
Good luck 🤞
thanks!
the company: “damn this guy has no self respect lmao let’s fire some ppl and give them their work”
Lmao what a chump
My grandpa unironically gave me advice equivalent to this meme. I did NOT follow it, lol!
