France says it’s already witnessing an uptick in tourism for 2025. According to the French tourism minister, Paris is seeing an increase in Canadian and Japanese tourists in particular, people who otherwise may have visited the United States.

I would have expected more TBH. Tesla got a huge slap in the face, even though a Tesla car can’t abduct you to a gulag …

There are still too many people who are either uninformed or think this won’t happen to them. Surely the tourists that got detained did something wrong. As long as they follow all the rules it won’t happen to them. Etc. It’ll take a couple of more cases in the media for it to go down more.

Honestly I’m also a bit surprised it hasn’t dropped more, and why it hasn’t dropped 50% like Tesla sales?
As you mention the risk is way higher traveling to USA. If you end up in prison in El Salvador, because of some stupid clerical error, you may have to end you life there!!
And if people think they are OK because they are white, that is absolutely not true, 2 German girls (white) were arrested by ICE because their holiday involved some sort of holiday work that is very normal in Europe. A Dane (also white) married to an American with 4 children, was also arrested by ICE.
It’s insane to go to USA business or holiday or conference unless you absolutely have to.

The wave just starts to build up.

Remember that not so many have understood so far what’s really going on there, and what the risks are. But time will come and then they all feel the need to throw up…

You have to submit your vacation requests at the end of the year in most companies for the following year. And you get significant discounts for booking early. So there are many people who booked their US vacation back in October, November, December and can’t cancel the holiday now.

Considering the risks, even blowing a couple of thousand $ to the wind by not going but still paying is still worth it.
