Liberalisms strongest warrior, all downhill since 😔

Che wanted to be the commie version.

Also I’m pretty sure there’s a gay fanfic of Giuseppe Garibaldi and Giuseppe Mazzini.

Also Lincoln offered Garibaldi a spot in the military and Garibaldi said he would only accept complete control as commander-in-chief and the ability to unilaterally end slavery.

I remember reading something that he dreamed of leading a grand slave revolt from Brazil and into the US where all of the new world would be liberated. I also see that he supported the first international and the French commune which is dope.

That page mentions a party that was just called “Extreme Left” (Estrema Sinistra) which is pretty cool. Seems like this or “Radical Left” would be a great name for a modern left party. I mean, if they’re going to demonize us anyways, might as well roll with it and take it on as a brand.

There’s a party in Denmark called “Radical left”, this is to differentiate them from the party “Left”. Now the party called “Left” is the largest right wing party and “Radical left” are progressive centrists

The radical left were basically people that wanted parliamentary democracy with no king which was seen as radical at the time. Not really communist in the way we see it. Reminder that the Jacobins were still libs though they were the furthest left at the time basically. Marx’s whole job was deconstructing the radical left and showing it needed to go further in many social aspects.

Marx did seem to have a soft spot for Garibaldi though, generally he was a positive force

The origin story of how a town near me got it’s name was that the monks that founded the abbey in an area known as Garibaldi’s Station due to an Italian man who lived there and operated a coaling station on the railroad. The story goes that when the Pope was told the name to Officially ordain it or whatever he refused to have an abbey called Garibaldi after so recently losing so much land and power to the man.

He’s a huge part of south Brazilian history. Which Italians usually have no idea about. So it’s funny to see them shocked to hear the years he spent there, where he met his wife even (also a revolutionary).
