• this is one of those things I can’t understand, beyond the typical “confidence of ignorance” thing. none of these losers ever has any understanding of biology more complex than like a 4th grade standardized test for the State of Texas. but they can’t stop making sweeping, dogmatic and inaccurate pronouncements as though they are the spokesperson for like some multinational advanced research lab that does foundational, primary research.

as someone with an actual advanced degree in the life sciences, one of the things I gleaned is that all of the categories of biology were invented by humans to help humans try to understand and communicate phenomena with each other. life is absolutely riddled with edge cases that blow up our categories, so being focused on categorization is to focus on our own artifacts instead of natural phenomena and very navel-gazey imo.

It’s not a confidence of ignorance, it’s using the veil of science to justify hateful beliefs. JK Rowling has had hundreds of people calmly explain gender as a social construct and sex as a spectrum of genotypes and phenotypes to her. She doesn’t care and though she unavoidably knows better, and in fact cherry picks whatever scientific terms she thinks will let her justify her hatred.

Just want to point out that Texas starts science standardized testing in 5th grade because that makes it funnier
