I wish this was the norm. Not roasting hot in the summer, not getting wet when loading the car in the rain. Generating electricity without nimbys moaning about solar farms. Etc.

I can’t figure why US retailers aren’t doing this already. Customers would love the shelter, many would go to that store just for the covered parking. The store gets free power and free word-of-mouth advertising.

I hate surface parking lots. But if you can let cars park under solar panels, that gives them some excuse.

This is great! I’ve been telling everyone who will listen that we should be doing this but that since it’s more expensive than clear felling land for a solar plant that’s installed on the ground, it needs legislation. Anyone know of other countries that have done this? I hope more will follow

      France did that.

Since 2023, for every parking lot bigger than 1500m², new or already existing, solar panel coverage has to be installed before 2026 or 2028.

The solar panels need to cover at least half the parking lot area.

Another requirement is rainwater management system that cover at least half of the parking area. It can be rainwater collection, trees … Anything that allows rainwater to infiltrate the soil.

PS: for americans, 1500m² is equivalent to 372 king size beds, or 1/2500 central park
