I think that when people (hopefully all of us on this website) work to eliminate ableist language from their vocabulary, they end up with many fewer words to describe certain patterns/behaviors negatively.

    I tend to use words like: Wild, unserious, terrible etc.

    And I try to work around the sentiment in a more accurate way, because when I find myself seeing or reacting to something as [insert bad word], for me that’s the biggest problem. Replacing a word but keeping the sentiment doesn’t yet fix the issue, the sentiment needs to be changed.

    So for example when someone does something outrageous and disgusting, I frame it just as that. I don’t need to add adjectives that Other people at all.

    And I’m not perfect at this, nobody probably is. But trying to be aware of it already helps so much.
