Something got accidentally dropped down the shower drain and is blocking it. I’ve tried everything I can to get it out, to no avail. It’s blocking it so badly the shower is now unusable as it fills up and overflows almost instantly. The cheapest quote I’ve had from a plumber so far is £150 and that’s probably unattainable even though i made a mutual aid post about it.

I’ve tried everything to get a free plumber, I googled all the potential help for people on low incomes, tried the council, Age UK and potential grants, nothing. Neither my landlady or I are eligible for anything.

What can I do about this? I’m having to wash in the sink and this just isn’t sustainable. I can’t wash my hair at all.

depends what the object is really. If its just a clog of the usual suspects (hair and other small/soft debris) then a drain snake is probably the best option. it can’t be too big if it made it down the drain in the first place (assuming your drain has a grate or some way of preventing large objects from falling into the pipe. I’d be shocked if it didn’t.) Maybe post on local groups and try to find a kind handy person to help you out? you don’t have to be a plumber to unclog a drain generally.

If you have a plunger you could try that too
