While probably true, it’s not like I can trust Guinness World Records on this.

Tomb raider was never limited to a console family. Metroid is only on Nintendo devices. And even Metroid was never a phenomenon like tomb raider was in the 90s. Tomb raider also had a big revival with the modern trilogy on PC and consoles. And now the remastered classic games too.

The only Metroid I remember having any real hype was prime, and that was on the least popular console of that generation (of the big 3).

There is. Folks only want to forget it.
It answers Samus Aran’s motivations, will, aspirations, and reason for seeking the truth of the wars.

A heroine would protect tombs from being raided.

Context is everything, and in this one she’s living up to the empire standards.

She’s rescuing the artifacts so they can be put in the British Museum where they belong. Elgin marbles better make room

Technically she does, she’s usually fighting some shadowy company or millionaire trying to steal the artifacts for money or power.

“Protag.” She never claims to be a heroine. She’s quite literally the villain in a few games.

The people that own Lara Croft really try to market the franchise constantly in anyway they can. Maybe the UK in general. Like when that British awards group awarded Lara Croft as the world’s most famous female video game character and the rest of the world was confused but understood the home cooked voting. Guinness world records don’t excite like they used to once the book stopped being relevant because of the internet and the steady stream of things being announced as a guiness world record
