    Why do so many people who seem to like/respect Kwame Ture insist on dead naming him constantly? You don’t see people doing this for Malcolm X, Lenin, Stalin, and you certainly don’t see it for celebrities like Bob Dylan, David Bowie. Etc.

      people generally do it with people who get famous before changing their name to one from a “foreign” culture. Shuhada Sadaqat likewise is almost insistently referred to as Sinnead O’Connor.

      And they do actually do it with Malcolm X. Malcolm X adopted the name (Al-Hajj) Malik el-Shabazz after his conversion to mainstream sunni islam. He did not personally go by Malcolm at that point.

      Because he changed his name well after the 60s and that’s where the American historical focus on the civil rights movement tends to fall.

      We should use Kwame Ture though.
