I remember going through the adhd med regime & having depressive episodes, low appetite & lack of interest in anything. I don’t want my kid to go through that. They are having behavioral issues though, & something needs to change. I often feel like I’m failing them, even though my spouse & I are taking all the steps & communicating with their physician & teachers regularly.

Anyway, tldr : parenting is hard AF.

Im the other side of that coin. I know how hard it was being undiagnosed my whole life, so I make sure mine are loaded up on their meds.

    Are they the same meds?

Not all ADHD meds are the same. And not all patients are the same.

I was on methylphenidate (a relatively low dose), and that was very positive for me. But my personality is different than others, and that drug is going to be very different than whatever’s being perscribed now.

Idk about for kids, but I have a prescription for methylphenidate currently, so it’s still available, even if it’s not super common.

For what it’s worth, the effect isn’t miraculous for me.

I don’t mean to sound preachy or presume to know anything about your kiddo, but looking back on my mistakes, I should have paired low dose methylphenidate with more “self awareness” and specifically structuring my life around ADD.

And my subjective, low sample size experience was that methylphenidate worked best for the “less hyperactive” type of ADD, while newer drugs seemed to work better for my friends with more hyperactivity.

I had the lack of appetite for sure, but the other things not so much. Maybe give it a try, at least, if it’s definitely an ADHD issue?
