I created a free account with maxmind (geoip service) and there is an option to let me correct it to any other location. I wonder what is stopping me from just lying to maxmind, and claiming that I’m actually in some island no one lives in, for shits and giggles. Would my free account get removed? Would the request just be ignored? Looks like I need a dedicated ip, and I don’t want to try it yet.
(Side tangent, reddit has for no reason decided to lock my account, so maybe this is a sign to finally ditch the platform)

I don’t really know the answer but I would guess any location reasonably close (say 100km) to you or rather your ISP’s point of interconnection would be very difficult for them to discern if you were lying.
