As the Trump administration continues to accelerate the flagrant disregard of “international law”, we have seen various European leaders flock to China (alongside Canada), seeking deals. Some trips have been more successful than others - for example, Macron’s was fairly dire despite his lavish reception by Xi Jinping, but Starmer’s resulted in some actual deals and tariff reductions. The intent of this wave of diplomacy with China is clear: leverage.
Nobody should be fooled into thinking this revolt immediately benefits the developing world, of course. While a relative weakening of the US compared to Europe is progressive in a limited sense (insofar as the US is the locus of imperialism), every indication shows that, when it matters, the European consensus remains aligned in most respects with the US, such as with them and the Zionist entity against Iran, against national sovereignty in Africa (e.g. ECOWAS), as well as in Latin America (either in support or not sufficiently opposing American designs there against Cuba and Venezuela, to name but two countries). It is also unclear how long such a divide will last - perhaps Trump leaving office in 2028 and a slightly less bellicose leader in power will result in many cancelled deals with China.
Despite the very shaky initial steps over the past couple years, Europe still has many miles it must traverse to achieve sovereignty, let alone socialism. For now, it will cheer on the sanctions against millions of vulnerable people and incoming bombing of Iran and Hezbollah, though perhaps it will also share a degree of the economic/military retaliation.

I read that today’s elections in Japan were focused on the discontent with the ruling party. Exit polls:

This will give the fascists the supermajority required to get rid of the pesky post-WW2 constitution, by the way.
China please do something cool for once in getting them to fuck off. UN founding charter gives China carte blanche to do anything to stop them resuming aggression against China as Japan is one of the former axis powers and China as one of the victorious powers has the right under international law to do whatever they deem necessary to render them harmless and abolishing article 9 is IMO clear-cut intent to commit aggression.
I see it like this: the US isn’t ready to fight China yet. They’re going for cutting off all their allies first, securing oil, international maritime passageways, and trying to secure vital war material like rare earths production. US may be ready by early/mid 2030s. If Japan abolishes article 9 and starts re-arming next year or the year after they’ll be ready to assist the US in aggression against China. Frankly the Japanese like the Americans need a harsh and painful lesson. Frankly after 80 years they should have found the will to attempt to throw the yolk of American occupation off simply for national pride’s sake or grown a little spine to not be America’s airstrip 1 in Asia against China (both last century and this). So I have no sympathy at all if this course gets them nuked and only hope they aren’t able to take many Chinese lives before being put down if they go down this path (and I see nothing stopping it at this point, if anything the older generation in Japan seems to have had some wariness about militarism while the youth are just pumped full of militarist anime and western propaganda).
Besides obvious anti-immigration culture war stuff, I think some of them believe she’ll do fiscal populism, obviously that is not going to happen, they are all obsessed with neoliberal bs.
I think that voting for them has just become a tradition and the opposition has mostly been destroyed decades ago.
It was an obvious move by Sanae Takaichi to consolidate power at the peak of her popularity and gain what could be the largest majority in post WW2 Japanese history for the LDP, anyone telling you otherwise was coping or doesn’t understand what they’re talking about. The election wasn’t about discontent with the LDP, in fact it was about the opposite: giving them even more power. That’s why Takaichi called for the snap election herself in the first place.
Darkly humorous that Japan reduced the strictness of their immigration laws for a year or so under Ishiba, and then decided to elect the Japanese version of Stephen Miller in response and she has become the most popular Japanese PM in a long time.

Honestly if you had a socialist country with multiparty elections japan would probably be worth studying on how to have the same party (and mostly the same policies) win while have an opposition that legitimates the system
