They were happy to vote for Trump making excuses, “Trump doesn’t really mean that,” or, “Trump will only go after the bad ones.” Suddenly it’s, “This wasn’t what I voted for,” shocked pikachu face. Finally, there are a subset of people that once it does happen to them, will say things like, “Trump isn’t hurting the right people.” There were plenty of voters that were brown themselves, thinking they were part of the in-group. Some of these people are incredibly hateful. I can’t say that these people will deserve their comeuppance, but they absolutely need to experience it to have any hope of learning anything and adjusting their attitude and hate towards others.
None of that makes it OK for people to be subjected to torture, arbitrary imprisonment, beatings, death.
