The joint statement from the E3 — France, Germany, and the United Kingdom — is a master class in evasion. “We did not participate in these strikes, but are in close contact with our international partners, including the United States and Israel,” they declared. The text also lists all the references and rationalizations used by Iran hawks — “nuclear program, ballistic missile program, regional destabilization and repression against its own people.”

Not a single reference to the international law that explicitly prohibits aggression. It is particularly Orwellian that the European leaders “urge the Iranian leadership to seek a negotiated solution,” when Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi was literally doing exactly that the day earlier in Geneva.

It’s not 1945 anymore, for long that the us is not hegemon, its relative power is smaller every year.

The US is illegally bombing Iran without repercussions. No sanctions from anybody, hardly any criticism from the allies. To me, that’s still a hegemon.

Oh I missed the part where Russia’s allies critized their invasion of Ukraine. It’s not, not only there’s a growing rival, China, you have more mid-powers than ever before, from Pakistan and India, to Turkey or even Ethiopia.

where Russia’s allies critized their invasion of Ukraine

What does that have to do with the US being or not being the hegemon?

          there’s a growing rival, China

Growing. Are they there yet? As far as I know they can’t project their power globally, unlike the US.

So the US are “still a hegemon”.

If China is not global, neither is the US. No one touches each other’s “backyards”. The US had a treaty obligation to defend Ukraine from Russia and never did it (provide some weapons is not the same as actively defending a country).

If China is not global, neither is the US.

Blue water navy and bases. The US are in a different league.

              treaty obligation to defend Ukraine

Technically they did not. They gave assurances and not guarantees and forced Ukraine to accept that. If you dare to look into it, Russia was let to believe that they were on a way to join Nato or become part of something similar.

The US doesn’t have to protect Ukraine to be the hegemon.
