“I personally like to…” what the fuck! just say “I like to”, it’s the same sentence, nothing changed, you didn’t add any nuance to your stupid fucking take.
edit: awesome reading comprehension up in here. it’s not a crusade against the word, it’s a rant against morons using it wrong. as in “I personally like to…” - nothing is added here by using the P-word! you liking shit is the most personal, subjective thing on the planet, you didn’t add anything, you just sound like little carmine.

Be respectful to others, even if they’re the subject of your rant. Realize that you can be angry at someone without denigrating them.

And yet you criticise other people’s reading comprehension? Also, I personally don’t think that people are using it as wrongly as you think they are. I personally do think it adds nuance to the sentence. I suppose that’s where we differ, in a personal sense.
That “personally” emphasises some matter is subjective, that you are not treating it as incontestable truth.
I’m not certain but I think it’s increasing in usage, like you do. But I don’t think it’s idiotic; I think it’s part of a trend where people pre-emptively shield their statements against assumptions others might come up with. You know, people really love to screech at the others not because of what the others said, but because of their assumptions = lies = bullshits over what the others said.
I also believe a few other ongoing trends are basically for the same reason: “though” at the end of sentences, “basically” (eh, self-demonstrating example), the modern usage of “literally”, “inb4”, etc.
…now thinking, I could should write a full rant against assumers. …nah, I do this too often already.
I personally use “I personally” occasionally.
I think it stresses the fact that the statement you are about to make is more deeply rooted in your personal believes and behaviours or even a major part of your personality and not only a random thought that just crossed your mind.
Also it implies the understanding that you are not talking about something you consider to be a universal truth, but just something related to your person, thereby recognizing that other people might have their own very different personal views.
- This user posted a rant about something that annoys them to the Rant community - you obviously don’t need to agree with their opinion but downvoting it seems misguided.
- Nobody could have predicted that nearly every reply would intentionally start with the phrase they were complaining about.
I initially upvoted the post, but just changed that to a downvote when I saw OP had later switched to insulting the commenters in his post instead of interacting with them in the discussion.
There is nothing wrong about the initial rant itself, but that’s just not the proper way to take part in the community.
That’s totally fair and makes sense. I just didn’t like when I initially saw the post sitting at 0 before the multiple edits.
I mostly use it when I’m expressing an opinion that I know people will pretend I think is a fact.
