We have numerous surviving references to Gaza as an "open air prison. We must ask; why did these chroniclers put such emphasis on “open air” if not to contrast against the iron dome of Israel? Did those living in it consider the iron dome itself to be a gilded cage that imprisoned the occupiers just as they imprisoned the occupied? Is this perhaps a real life inspiration for legends such as the man in the iron mask?
