    yes, the house of lords will now consist solely of rich people who gave a lot of money to political parties. and some unelected god botherers.

    The lords put up a fight, forcing a compromise that will see an undisclosed number of hereditary members allowed to stay by being “recycled” into life peers.

    Ah the ol’ “you can screw my kids over just don’t kick me off my perch” move.

      The second best option to changing something for the better today would be changing it for the better tomorrow. Far better than never changing it at all, although it sucks a bit compared to immediate change

        Yeah as compromises it’s a decent one. Addresses the issue long term but avoids a protracted fight with the recycled peers (my assumption is it’s the relatively young hereditary peers that are being recycled). Might even get marginally better politics out of them if the seat isn’t seen in the context of something that’ll be passed to the next generation.
