My second favourite Linux command: kill, my all time favourite Linux command: killall
Just yesterday I had the “Memory shortage avoided” message after opening the gazillionth Firefox tab. The wording with the bomb icon is very funny. It really makes you imagine the kernel murdering the unsuspecting process in cold blood and then reporting to you what was done and what actions are expected of you calmly.
That’s not a -9-millimeter, though!
Unless you have a zombie process going on. Things get a bit more complicated with those.
I don’t even understand linux as it is. Now you’re telling me there’s zombies in my linux??? But zombies ate my neighbors!
I’m sorry, it sounds like you’re already having a bad day, but there’s also zombies on your lawn.
Probably the same ones who ate my neighbors! Now they want more…
Gotta use the
--headshotflag then.
It’s an old meme but checks out.
it’s a really common meme, but linux used to freeze quite a lot on my old laptop. I had to install some daemon that kills unresponsive processes before the whole system freezes. I learned that some distros have it by default. Also enabling the SysRq key was pretty helpful.
