Someone came through with the last lot of money for my hospital transport, thank you. But now my landlady will be away longer so I need more help. Her daughter was recently in hospital over 200 miles away, so she went to stay with her to help her when she got out. She had part of her bowel removed so needed help herself and looking after her kids for a couple of weeks. However she’s developed an infection after the operation and has been sent back to hospital. The recovery will be longer so my landlady will be away longer.

I have no-one else to drive me, I can’t drive myself as I’m partially sighted. You have to pay for hospital transport and I don’t qualify for the St John Ambulance free hospital transport. They only take people who are either bedridden or on oxygen, and neither of those apply to me.

I have a lot of hospital appointments as I’m a stroke and cancer patient. The stroke was caused by my cancer treatment and it has left me partially sighted, unable to walk properly and with various other issues. My upcoming appointments include multiple ophthalmology appointments and a brain scan as my vision loss is spreading and they need to do a brain scan to find out why, multiple physiotherapy appointments, multiple podiatry appointments to try and keep my recurrent infected foot ulcers under control, as well as neurology, endocrinology (it’s thyroid cancer I’m being treated for so have to see the endocrinologist regularly, especially as I’m having major problems with my medication) and the stroke clinic.

If I cancel these appointments, it will affect me badly. I’ll be unable to get the treatment and medication changes I need, worsening problems go undetected in time to fix them, and I’ll be on the waiting list for so much longer trying to get the appointments rebooked.

You know I don’t like to ask for money through paypal because of potentially having to explain it to the DWP (which is why I ask for gift cards when it comes to food) but there is just no alternative right now. I really need actual money to pay for hospital transport and taxis when the hospital transport isn’t available. I’ve gotten quotes from the taxi company and the hospital transport and I need around £500. An example of why it’s so expensive is because as well as having many appointments, some aren’t at my local hospital but at other hospitals in the county. For instance one is at a hospital nearly 20 miles away and I’ve been quoted £38 each way for that journey. That’s nearly £80 for just one appointment.

I know everyone’s hard up at the moment and this is a big ask, if I have to, I’ll cancel some of them. But the waiting list is so long I’ll be waiting months extra, maybe over a year as the NHS is so strained. I’m so stressed about all this on top of everything else.
