Not long ago, after a day of work, a colleague and I met for a friendly game of racquetball at our university gym. In the newly designed locker room, I began pulling off my shirt to change when he quickly stopped me: “You can’t do that here.” Undressing, it turned out, was now permitted only in small private stalls—which struck me as odd. This was a gym with a pool, where someone could go directly from a shirts-on locker room to a shirtless swim. But the logic was clear enough: The space had been redesigned as “universal,” for people of all genders. The locker room, once a place for casual and normative nudity, had quietly become a place where modesty was expected.

So it’s upset about woke making these locker rooms spaces for more than just an exclusive OR of men or women?

Though presumably men as I don’t see women complaining about this or really doing this weird older male thing of hanging around naked tits and everything out and just conversing with each other. Maybe that used to happen but it seems so male coded and I’m not that old so I don’t know. The last time I was in anything approaching a locker room that was full of people (instead of just a few who could avoid each other) was high school and though you know with teenage girls and hormones there was some weird and boisterous stuff (mostly verbal) going on most of us I think just faced our lockers and changed and maybe chatted a little with a friend but it was just underwear not nude which would have made me even more uncomfortable than I already was. So I have no idea. It seems so odd to me. I mean I definitely don’t think nudity should be seen as shameful though I’m definitely the one who’d want a stall.

i-am-adolf-hitler: “Trans people bad because….uhhhh….they just want to get in the locker rooms and see us naked! Fucking perverts!”

i-am-adolf-hitler: “Some people don’t want to be naked around strangers? Trans people must be genocided for this! I am normal for wanting to see other people nude!”

I too would choose a stall, but that’s just because I’ve got a weird thing about my own gender going on, I really don’t see the issue with people changing in front of each other and I think that culturally we have way more taboo around nudity than we should.
