Interesting the amount of comments which try to derail or troll the discussion on an enirely positive subject. The only disadvantage I could see is that it means less money for the fossil industry and car industry. But isn’t that a win?

No, the disadvantage is that things change, and things must not change because I learned them to be a certain wqy. And when some things can change, others can change, too, and where do I draw my identity from then? And what about my lazy ass excuse that things can’t change and that even trying is futile, do I have to get up and try to change things, too? (/s)

For fucks sake I’m autistic and I can handle change better than most conservatives and other right wingers.

Not for the people with the experience and money to pay trolls to manipulate public discourse and opinion…

I’ve heard from people with kids going to Paris recently that it’s an absolute blast you can just go with your kids on a bike anywhere in the city and you don’t have to worry.

That’s overstating it a bit. There are still a lot of cars. I wouldn’t recommend it for inexperienced cyclists, let alone children.

Once your car has been burned down for the third time, you start to consider whether a bike might just be a more cost-effective alternative.

I first visited Paris in …1992? Since 2010 I’ve been back about 15 times.

And Paris is about 15 times better. Granted, I live in NL, so bikes are second nature to me.

To be fair, non-Parisian French also hate them. I will always remember my first trip to Paris, I was like 17, never really been to a big city before. I stepped out of Gare de l’Est, completely overwhelmed, so I asked an old lady who was walking her dog where the bus stop I was looking for was. Without missing a beat, she kindly told me to fuck off. Delightful.

Although in her defence, they must have 1000s of scams to dodge on a daily basis so the fuck off approach is probably their default.

But still, even the French hate the French, especially if they’re from Paris.

Do you know how many places would be actually nice to live in if there just were much less tourism? Most if not all tourist hot spots.

Right, yeah, because its people that get to choose what flavour of exploitation their native city will opt for.
