Still gets too cold in the winter for screwworms to become endemic THIS decade. But they can thrive in the summer months in imported cattle; with a 37 day cycle, they can hang around long enough to do damage right now.
We can’t depend on climate to protect us indefinitely.

That’s what people said about the mountain pine beetle, until the winters weren’t cold enough anymore and thousands of hectares of forest died, which then became forest fires. Now it’s not a matter of if, but how many forest fires BC will have.
Being proactive now will reduce the problem later.
