There’s a generation gap here in “how they are cooked”. Olds tend to think u mean the potatoes & youths tend to think u mean the people. (I just made that up btw but it feels true)
Even converting them to raw calories, potatoes are pretty great. A whole-ass baked potato (without toppings) is less than a lot of kinds of normal candy bars, and way, way more filling. The trick is to not drown it in butter, cheese, and sour cream if you want a healthy meal.
It’s how they are cooked that’s the issue.

Well as long as your feelings tell you it’s true then it must be. Wait a minute. You’re part of the Trump administration aren’t you!?
Guess I’m old at 35.
Right, boiled and baked potatoes are great foods for weight loss.
You can even have potato salad, a great way to eat your veggies!
Well, them being largely starch/carbs isn’t helping either.
Potatoes are an odd duck in the carb world.
I’ve read some research about how they don’t metabolize the way you’d think for being the carb they are.
If I can find it I’ll drop a link, it’s been a few years since I read it.
That said, I don’t care - you can take my breakfast potatoes, my mashed potatoes, my roasted potatoes, from my cold, dead, clawed hand. 🤣
