My partner and I were trying to find a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house around there, not that we can afford one, and it can’t be done for less than $1.4 million and those houses are pretty crap. Like one was 900 sqft and cost $1.9 million.
Don’t I know it. I keep telling my partner that but she’s too afraid to leave because layoffs are the norm now and the next job almost assuredly won’t be a remote job.

In the heartland, you can get that same house for 1/15 of that sticker price.
There’s a baseline, and then there’s the waves of markup that the upper tier of the economy is coasting on.
