I thought this reddit post was creepy, it looks like 20 years ago, someone invented a device to edit, create and delete human memories, and since then people have been claiming their memories have been changed.

FIG. 19 is a drawing of a neuron on which the organic component names were replaced with comparable inorganic machine part names.

The pseudoscience shitpost enjoyer in me appreciates that patent a lot, but you’d think they would use their tech for something cooler than helping white libs cope with their own ignorance of apartheid South Africa

I’m skimming through it and looks like the standard sort of thing theories on brainwashing usually come up with, which don’t survive against scientific rigour, fortunately for us. Most of the figures are just neuroscience textbook stuff leading into quantum and AI buzzwords. Ahead of its time in that way.

    This rules

There’s a description of the machine used for the brainwashing as panels attached to either side of the TV, they seem to have lights, text, and sound which display things. I think this machine is the thing that is actually patented, not the process of erasing memories. Considering the year and the vibes of this machine I think the inventor was a big fan of Lost and started to internalize some of the aesthetics and fringe science elements.
