The 2003 European heat wave saw the hottest summer recorded in Europe since at least 1540.[2][3] Spain, France, and Italy were hit especially hard. The heat wave led to health crises in several countries and combined with drought to create a crop shortfall in parts of Southern Europe. The death toll has been estimated at more than 70,000.[4][5]
To put into relativion, in 2020 (the first year of the pandemic) there was a small, barely noticed heatwave in Germany at the begin of August. That heatwave is believed to have killed more people than Covid-19 in Germany in 2020.
To be fair I don‘t expect many people to die of covid this year.
I think the poster means 2020, not 2026. ‘This’ year should have been ‘that’ year. At least, that’s my interpretation.
