Just a random thought to cross my mind.

I’d say at least a few more years, like around 2010 when far-right parties were still polling in the single digit range.

By 2010 is was already too late. 90s might have been the last taste, but it was too late then too. 80 was too late too, but there was no way to know it then.

What’s happen now was decades in planning.

I just thought things were less terrible, at least in my view. Sure, things were still bad and we still had mango mussolini as president but there was more in the way of distractions. Now, just about all I can think of is how bad things are whereas back than I could think, haha tide pods. To be fair, I was a dumbass teenager back then. I think I’ve grown a lot as a person, mostly for the better.

No point in living without growing. I remember in high school they had some motivational speaker come talk to our class. He was some ex-vet who had attempted suicide (that’s all I really remember about him). He talked about life and a bunch of shit I don’t remember. One thing he said really stuck with me. He said something like “If i looked back at myself when I was in high school and I haven’t changed and grown as a person than that’s a complete failure on my part.” I think it’s wisdom the whole world should hear.

Thank you, I wish you the same and also to anyone else reading this.

Remember we joked about “Grammar Nazis” and called children “Little Hitlers”?

Back when most of us assumed Nazism wouldn’t become a mainstream ideology we’d have to deal with again…

And then some dummies started actually eating them and things got way more complicated.

In retrospect the willingness of people to eat detergent for attention, the over commitment as a “joke” behavior, really heralded the modern political landscape.

That shit didn’t start with tidepods, it’s been around as long as humans and always will be

If people start joking about something, some idiots will do it as a joke, then more idiots will do it seriously without realizing it’s a joke.

It’s the reason literally means both literally and figuratively now

And even kind of related to the awesome/awful switch when Christians finally learned what their Bible said about their god. Before it was in English they just listened to nonsense Latin and then what the priest said it meaned.

Once they learned their God was “awesome”, they started using that as good and awful as bad. A complete 180 in very short order.

It’s just a long game of “telephone”, and kids in particular are really fucking bad at it. Every generation of kids have their version of tidepods. Social Media and old news broadcasts on YouTube just leave evidence.
